Performance

Rehabilitation & Conditioning Programs

Every horse is individually assessed, with programs tailored to injury history, veterinary guidance and training goals.

Early-Stage Rehabilitation

Carefully managed early-stage rehabilitation for horses recovering from tendon, ligament, joint and soft-tissue injuries.

Programs focus on controlled exercise, comfort and safe progression during the critical early stages of recovery.

Reconditioning & Return to Work

Structured programs designed to progressively rebuild strength, fitness, and confidence following injury or time off.

Programs focus on consistency, low-impact conditioning and a safe, structured return to training.

Specialist Conditioning

Conditioning programs designed for performance horses requiring structured fitness development while minimising concussion and strain.

Programs support strength development, cardiovascular fitness and long-term durability.

Collaborative Care

We work closely with trainers, owners and veterinarians to ensure every horse receives consistent, professional care aligned with their rehabilitation or conditioning goals.

Clear communication and structured programs support safe progress and long-term soundness.

Precision Treadmill Conditioning

Controlled speed, incline and duration allow structured conditioning and progressive rehabilitation while minimising concussion and overload. This system supports safe strength development while maintaining overall fitness.

Swimming Rehabilitation

Low-impact cardiovascular conditioning allowing horses to build strength and fitness without concussion on joints and tendons. Swimming supports rehabilitation while maintaining overall conditioning.

Sand Auto-trainer Strength & Conditioning

Our sand auto-trainer provides controlled walking and trotting exercise in deep sand surface, allowing horses to safely develop strength, muscle and cardiovascular fitness while maintaining a consistent workload. Unlike traditional walking machines, the system supports progressive conditioning while reducing concussion on limbs and joints.

Purpose-Built Rehabilitation Barn

Specialists in Tendon Rehabilitation

Tendon injuries are one of the most challenging conditions affecting performance horses.

At Grives Equine Rehabilitation, our programs focus on progressively rebuilding strength, conditioning and durability, allowing horses to safely return to training and competition.

Using controlled treadmill conditioning, sand auto-trainer work, swimming and structured workloads, horses develop the strength and resilience required for long-term soundness.

Our goal is not simply recovery - but building stronger, more durable equine athletes capable of sustaining performance.

Experience You Can Trust

Ashlee Grives has spent over 20 years working with performance horses across both harness and thoroughbred racing.
Prior to her racing career, Ashlee was also a highly successful rider competing in both campdrafting and show disciplines.

A Group 1 winning trainer and driver in harness racing, Ashlee became a record-breaking female driver in the sport - the first female to drive 100 winners in a season and finishing that season with 167 wins.

She was also the first and only female to win the prestigious Harold Park Medal.

Ashlee later trained thoroughbred racehorses and developed a strong interest in rehabilitation and conditioning, successfully returning a number of injured horses to soundness and racing.

She also worked as an equine nurse at Randwick Equine Centre, one of Australia's leading equine veterinary hospitals.
